What a few years it has been!
After giving up the surf school on Woolacombe beach I have had many changes in my life. With lots of ups and a few downs, but it has been one of the best desisions of my life.
After training and working hard to gain both a Master surf coach (level 4) and teachers qualifcation, it didnt feel right selling body boards and wetsuits to pay the rent and having the stress of paying the monthly rent for the shop. I knew it was time to leave. I also felt held back from offereing other activities such as Stand Up Paddle boarding from Woolacombe beach due to local politics which made the progression of the business feel limited.
Last year 2015 was the biggest year for change as I started to run my surf school from Putsborough (the south end of Woolacombe Bay). It turned out amazingly well as it is a much more beautiful, sheltered and quieter end of the beach and ideal for SUP and surf lessons.
Coasteering is still being run from Hele Bay and Baggy Point (Croyde).
Obviously I had much more organising of vehicles and kit every day. Storage issues were challenging, but we pushed through and Im hoping most people are still happy with the tuition!
Being able to offer other activities such as SUPing and being more flexible was a freedom in disguise.
I now teach daily and run a surf skills squad enabling youngsters to be confident in the water and progress their life saving and board skills.
I also run a company called Surfers World which offers, surfing, coasteering and stand up paddle boarding within the UK. We also offer over seas trips for surfers wanting to progress their surfing and escape the winter, lifeguard and surf instructor training both here and in the UK and Morocco.
